James SAYERS was the son of John SAYERS or SAYER and (First wife) UNKNOWN? & said to be of Huguenot descent.
His father, (John SAYERS or SAYER), became a weaver, rented a workplace in Greenock on the "North Side of Tobago Street, within the Western Barony of Greenock, Old parish Greenock" (during his second marriage?)
James SAYERS married Margaret MACARA on 1 Jun 1798 in Dumbarton, Dunbartonshire, Scotland.
She was the daughter of John McCARA (McARA, McCARA, or MACARA) & Isobel ROBISON.
James SAYERS had the following occupations:
01 Jun 1798 - Sawyer, West (Old) Parish, Greenock, Renfrewshire ("Sawyer - one who saws; carpenter");
07 Dec 1800 - Wright, res. Cartsdyke, Greenock, Renfrewshire ("Wright - workman, especially a construction worker");
23 Mar 1806 - Boatman, West Greenock;
27 Nov 1808 - Mariner; later Ship Captain.
The daughters of James & Margaret (Isabella, Janet & Margaret?) inherited a lease on a weaving shed from their grandfather John SAYERS. (Was this the weaving shed referred to above, on the "North Side of Tobago Street, within the Western Barony of Greenock, Old parish Greenock"?)
